WineScores' Review

Lovely, fresh, creamy.
For 30 years, the Jackson family has sustainably farmed and tended this Santa Maria Valley estate in Santa Babrara. Barbara Banke and Jess Jackson's daughters, Katie Jackson and Julia Jackson, grew up among the estate's vines. Drawn to the grit and beauty of winemaking, Katie and Julia continue the family business.
Cambria is shaped by these three women: Barbara Banke's keen knowledge of the industry and business sense, Katie's passion for sustainability and the land, and Julia's creative backbone and dedication to empowering communities.
The vineyard was named for Katie Jackson in 1986, and this 2018 Chard is comprised of clones: 4 and Wente 76 and 96, which grow on the estate's ancient soils of fossilized seashells, shale, limestone and sand.
It was 75% barrel fermented, 75% went through malolactic fermentation and was aged sur lie in French oak for 8 months (20% new) before bottling.
Expect rich notes of dried pineapple and yellow plums, quince, vanilla, orange blossoms, lemon meringue and clove that result in a palate that is as creamy as it is juicy. Lovely concentration here and woven flavours of lemon curds, coconut, clove and vanilla. Nicely balanced and wonderfully persistent. Pair with roasted artichokes with capers and mint, creamy soups and pastas, corn chowder and smoked cheese.

WineDiva.ca was launched prior to WineScores, in February 2004. WineDiva is the alter ego of Daenna Van Mulligen. She wears a cork tiara and is proof that a girl can have her w(h)ine and drink it too! WineDiva.ca is a tongue-in-cheek approach to a very serious passion for all things wine. WineDiva’s goal is to make wine fun, subtly educational & deviously inspirational. Vintage reciting wine snobs need not apply. WineDiva is painting the wine world pink and drinking it all in, and her glass is always (at least) half-full.

WineScores is the more serious follow up to WineDiva.ca. WineScores was born from the demand to see wine writer Daenna Van Mulligen provide scores on her wine reviews. These are numerical scores based on a 100 point scale – an internationally recognized form of rating wines. These numbers provide a snapshot for consumers on how the wine reviewer views the overall quality of the wine. For more information on scoring wine, go to “about”.
